‘Race and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of color to deal with it. It’s up to all of us – Black, white, everyone – no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out. It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets.’ — Michelle Obama
Here it is; a set of basic cozy/comfy wear that’ll also double up as fitness/workout wear (at least if you’re like me and like to wear loose clothes heh). I’m a huge fan of comfy pants/joggers and oversized tees, and wear them roughly 80% of the time I spend breathing, and so my sims need some too! Also a whole set of twisted pigtails for sims who like to wear their hair cute even when lounging or exercising, eh? ;D
Now what? After 3 weeks of protests and educating ourselves and educating others, how do we keep the momentum going for this civil rights movement? How do we make permanent change?
The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women of colour like Marsha P. Johnson paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can.
I saw this on Facebook and wanted to share here. This is all you’re going to hear from me on the matter. God bless.
Your Black friend is trying to be ok.
Your Black friend in the past 30 days has watched a Black man get shot dead while jogging (Ahmaud Arbery), a Black woman get shot dead while sleeping (Breonna Taylor), and the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Your Black friend has also listened to the President of the United States use segregationist words as a veiled threat.
Your Black friend is trying to be ok.
Please don’t ask us about the looting. Please don’t chastise us about the rioting. Please don’t tell us that all lives matter. Please don’t minimize our fear. Please don’t bring up Black on Black crime. Please don’t ask “What about Chicago?” Please don’t say “if you’d just act like (A Wildly Successful Black Person… Usually Oprah, Obama, Colin Powell, Denzel or Will Smith)”. Please don’t judge us
Your Black friend is trying to be ok.
Listen to your Black friend. Empathize with your Black friend. Support your Black friend. Pray for your Black friend. Pray with your Black friend.
Just let your Black friend know you really care.
Your Black friend will remember who truly had their back during this difficult time. They will remember who was more concerned about a looted Target. They will remember you posting a thinly veiled and racially offensive meme. They will remember you calling looters “Savages”. They will remember your silence about their Black life and the Black Lives of others.
It’s real easy.
Do whatever you can to help your Black friend out because your Black friend is trying to be ok…
My twelve cents…
If you witness someone getting their clothes ripped off their body, you don’t yell at them, demanding to know why they let someone take their clothes. You give them your jacket or shield them as you usher them to privacy.
If your friend gets poked in the eye, you don’t scoff and say “that’s what you get.” You ask how you can make them feel better.
When a child cries, you don’t walk past her and blame her parent for leaving her alone. You comfort the child and attempt to find the parent.
This is not a time for pointing fingers. People are hurting. Full stop.
Racism didn’t die. It’s very much alive just hidden in the system. KKK members are Judges, Police Officers, Politicians, etc.
Why are White men with a criminal record more likely to land a job than a Black man without one?
Why are Black men stopped because they have a nice car?
Why does the arrest of Black people end in death?
Why since slavery you have been determined to treat us less than human? What have we done to you other than ask for the right to live peacefully without harassment?
